2007 – Giovanni Pecchioli – Giostra

Located at the entrance to Florence’s Meyer Children’s Hospital, Giostra – a multi-coloured work in ceramic – serves as a transitional object to guide visitors on their way by marking the space and making it uniquely recognisable.
A cement structure has been clad in pale-coloured tiles; these in turn have been covered with long strips of brightly coloured ceramics. Firing the strips was technically complex, but the effect is like that of a huge toy: immediate and joyful.
